Aromatherapy
Do you know what really happens when you smell a flower?
Find out how Aromatherapy works.
Aromatherapy is a science linked to molecular chemistry.
Through research carried out since the beginning of the 20th century and maintained until today, it was discovered how the molecules present in essences have chemical information that helps maintain our health and organic balance in a natural and effective way.
Scents are made of molecules, like everything else in the world. When you inhale a rose, for example, you are actually inhaling the aromatic molecules that the rose releases into the air.
Airborne aromatic molecules are inhaled and bind to the olfactory membrane within the nasal cavity. These membranes have highly specialized nerve endings, called olfactory receptors.
Once these receptors recognize an aromatic molecule, they send a signal to its olfactory bulb, which is connected to the cerebral cortex and the limbic system.
From this, hormones and neurotransmitters are released.
You probably know that different hormones and neurotransmitters cause different reactions in your body. So if a perfume reminds you of something good and light, you will have good and light thoughts. If an aroma relaxes you, your body will release relaxing hormones.
In this way we see that Aromatherapy works the relationship of the individual with the aromas and all the olfactory memory that it possesses, being something very particular and unique. Thus promoting a balance between body and mind, providing more health and well-being. As Carla Vescovi says, “Aromatherapy is for whom and not for what”! Great consideration must be given to the particularity of each individual and their relationship, their response to each information contained in each aroma.
